I’m 5’9" and weigh 171 pounds. 3 weeks ago i started training for xcountry. I started running and roughly counting calories 3 weeks ago. i run approx. 15 miles a week (average of past 3 weeks, running 20 next week). At the start of my training i weighed 170, after about 4 days i seemed to have lost a pound or 2 (i know it fluctuates with water weight, so i’m not sure exactly how much i lost, but i weighed myself a few times throughout the day and was always below 170, and was 167 right after my run). Then, more or less a week later i weighed myself again and i weighed about 172 (note; all of my weight measurements are an average of a few separate measurements throughout the day), so it seems as though i gained 3 pounds. a little over a week later (now) i weigh about 171.
Can anyone explain this phenomena? I’m eating probably about 2000 calories or less a day, my recommended calorie intake for maintaining my weight (factoring in my intense exercise almost every day) is 3,200. I definitely am not eating any more than 2,500 calories a day, but could i gain muscle that quickly? do i need to reconsider the amount of exercise to calculate?
