What is the difference between a weighted GPA and an unweighted GPA?

On my freshman final transcript, it says I have a 3.04 Cumulative Weighted GPA. How does this compare to an unweighted GPA, and which GPA do colleges look at? (I didn't take any honors or AP this year, if that helps)
