What is the difference between a weighted GPA and an unweighted GPA?
July 19th, 2008 by | Filed under General Talking. On my freshman final transcript, it says I have a 3.04 Cumulative Weighted GPA. How does this compare to an unweighted GPA, and which GPA do colleges look at? (I didn't take any honors or AP this year, if that helps)

A weighted GPA should only be if you took honors or AP courses from my understanding. I did a little research and found this previous yahoo question that I think will help.

A weighted GPA is with all the honors classes weighted. I know you didn't take any honors so your unweighted will be the same as your weighted. This is what will go on your transcript and what colleges will see. At some schools, they use the unweighted GPA for honor roll. The weighted cumulative GPA just shows colleges what your total average is.
Ex:
Class Schedule
Hnrs Bio– 3.7, weighted 4.7
Lab
Spanish- 4.0
Gym- 3.7
English- 3.3
Hnrs US History- 4.0, weighted 5.0
Algebra- 3.7
Imaging- 4.0
Unweighted you have a: 3.77
Weighted you have a: 4.05
The colleges will see the 4.05.
