How do asian women stay so thin? What kind of diet?
July 20th, 2008 by | Filed under General Talking.I am Asian, 5'6" and have been weighing 120 lbs. I've been trying to lose weight to around 110 lbs for the last 5 years and failed to do so, the closest with me at 114 lbs when I had a personal trainer.
I would like to know how other Asian women do it?! I see so many of them (in USA and in Asia) that are my height but weigh on average 105 to 110 lbs. And no, they're not anorexic. And yes, they still eat a lot and look healthy, and they are not bulimic and no, they are not sick or have mental problems. This is the NORM in Asia.
Trust me when I say this is the "norm" in Asia. Most women in Asia, especially Korea/Japan/China, have a BMI of 16 and are on the cusp of being anorexic.
They look so beautiful. I am *not* anorexic/mentally need help. I want an honest answer. If you know please tell me. Thank you.
Wow, those are really good answers! Thank you for the insightful, and thoughtful replies!

One word, love: Genetics.
they always eat healthy food and vegiesss
120 is perfect because you have meat still, come on we all know we are thin because of our genes…we eat a high carb diet and still stay thin LOL
well keep in mind the diet they have in asia, it comprises of low protein (which is better for us because our ancestors ate less meat than white people) and fewer meals a day than we do with less bad junk foods. also, people in asia all ride bikes and move around A LOT! they work really hard as most people do manuel labor of some sort. for example, when i was in beijing.. the bag boy had a college degree LOL
they eat healthy food..
eat rice and raw fish
Sushi, I hear raw fish and stuff like that has alot to do with diets. Im always seeing it in magazines.
countries like japan or the philippines, they serve their food size portions smaller.
for example, mcdonalds' fries size in asia would be medium sized, compared to U.S, our medium fries size would be large.
Why would you want to be as thin as a chopstick? It's a total turnoff!
That doesn't sound too big to me. I would just do more exercise strength building. Don't overdo it though. Also cut down on processed foods and sugar.
I lived in Korea for ten years so I observed carefully that:
Most of korea women aren't obssessed with junk food like we westerners often are. I don't think they ate tonnes of the stuff when they were kids. Most Koreans aren't crazy about sweet stuff.
Then there is the fact that their diets are generally more healthy than ours. I'd guess Japan is the same too.
Koreans love to eat rice, kimchi (spicy cabbage) and a lot of healthy side dishes like dried fish, spicy cucumbers, pickled radish.
Basically they've had healthy eating habits from when they were young.
Good luck!
eat healthier non-processed/natures foods, eat less and genetics…
I am not Asian but I buy a lot of Asian clothes, and I have to agree, it is normal to be much smaller than the average American in Japan, etc. A size small here is a size medium/ large there! I am good friends with a few Chinese immigrants who all have darling figures. Not to sound stereotypical or whatever, but I've noticed they are ALL very active and industrious people. Always moving about, organizing, cleaning things, etc. They don't seem to ever be in idle mode. Just moving and burning calories seems to be their secret. I've also noticed they seem to stay more hydrated than most people. Always sipping water or hot tea. That's good for moving along things you're digesting quickly, and keeping you from retaining water weight. *shrug* my observations.
Just small framed with not a lot of muscle. If you work out a lot and have a medium or large frame then you should weigh more.
Don't think because the 105lb-110lb asian girls are skinny and don't weigh a lot that they have lean body fat percentages.
