Cycling any good for weight loss?

Hi, i currently weigh around 14 and half stone. I dont like my body, and want to be slimmer and possbily gain a little defination. I dout i'd be able to gain defintion from cycling, but would it be any good for weight loss? I plan on about a half hour cycle every morning, and i might also try a little swimmimg. I want to egt down to about 13-13 and half stone, so was wondering how long ya'll reckon this would take?
